Inspired by the exploration of American roots music in timeless albums by legendary artists like The Rolling Stones (Exile on Main St) and U2 (The Joshua Tree) and the Country/Pop crossover success of everyone from Chet Atkins and Elvis to Jason Aldean, Munk is taking his penchant for modern pop hooks, and infusing a little bit of Country into his Rock n Roll. The result is the Munk Duane Band’s debut EP “Everywhere Is South of Somewhere” is arriving digitally on October 11th. BUY IT NOW!
Munk explains, “What are the elements that create truly timeless music? I imagine this exploration is akin to the feeling The Rolling Stones had while creating Exile On Main Street or U2 with The Joshua Tree. I’m digging deep into Country and Americana tradition and attempting to marry those “nuggets” into the pop songwriting structure of 2011, much like Chet Atkins, Elvis and Buddy Holly did in the 50’s.”
Having written all the songs, Munk also played all the instruments with stand out guest appearances by members of the live band Tony Savarino (guitar), Dark Mark White (upright bass) and Conor Smith (fiddle, mandolin). “I love surrounding myself with musicians who are just flat out superior to me. I learn so much and the sound of the album is just better for it”.
Watch the story of the inspiration of the band’s sound in the latest episode of Munk’s “Vlogumentary” Subfamous, where he also visits Nashville on a field trip of Country music discovery.
Join the Munk Duane Band live for the CD Release performance Thursday, October 13 at The Hard Rock Cafe, Boston. Showtime 9pm.
